    '61 trunk weatherstripping

I am trying to install the "correct" trunk weatherstipping on my '61. That I have is shaped sort of like a n airplae wing, with one side thicker than the other. It is shaped different than what I took off. Since it is tapered, does the widest/thickest part go toward the trunk or towards the outside.? I tried it toward the trunk but it leaves a very large gap when the trunk is closed. Before I reglue, I wanted to double check.

Was the weatherstrip you took off ribbed and have a 3/8" or so gap at the center rear of the trunk lid? If so, it was the original, and you need to find a suitable weatherstrip that mimics the shape and contour of this one. Otherwise, your new one won't do the job to your standards.
