Re: 63-82 Lower Rear Shock Nut

Here's one which I believe is original that has markings on top only. The rear shocks were only replaced once around 1969. Now if a special nut, 3691530, was included with the Gabriel Shock during those years than that's were it came from, know for sure I would not have purchased new nuts (no funds back then). PS Lenght = .695 Well guess I install these markings in and they will look OK. Both the 3691530 nuts appear to be black phos!

Well, based on what I've learned in this thread...whatever the length, markings, finish of those NOS examples I have in my parts collection...they're going ON THERE!!! I'll let the judges "count the angels" later...if their eyes are good enough.

I highly doubt that a Gabriel shock would have been supplied with 3691530-equivalent nuts. In fact, most rear shocks for 63-82 Corvettes, including Delco, were supplied with a hardware package that included a large FLAT washer, a split lockwasher, and a standard thickness (or, slightly thicker than standard) hex nut. There were also instructions that the hardware supplied with the shocks was to be used. I never did, though.
