    1969 Tilt/Ttelescopic turn signal switch

I am rebuilding a 69-75 tilt tele column. My question deals with the emergency flasher switch. The column I am rebuilding does not have a threaded provision in the turn signal switch for the emergency flasher knob. I also have a NOS (in the box) tilt/tele turn signal switch #1997950 and it is identical to the one in the column I am rebuilding and it also does not have this threaded provision. I have another similar column (although not disassembled) and it has a flasher knob and it will unscrew and you can look into the hole and see that the switch does have this threaded provision. The switch in the column I am rebuilding and the NOS switch have an oval shaped hole in the bottom of a protrusion from the side of turn signal switch. You can manually operate this protrusion and it will make the switch function as an emergency flasher but I do not understand how the threaded flasher knobs could be attached to make this switch function. I know this explanation is a little confusing, but this is about the best I can describe it. Maybe someone has run into this situation before and can provide me some guidance. Thanks.

There is a 3.9 inch long metal stamping that connects into the bottom of the turn signal switch at the hazard mechanism. You are screwing the button into that lever. The lever pivots on a shelf in the turn signal switch housing.

It is very easy to forget that the lever is even needed (until the column is all back together and you find no tapped hole for the hazard knob to screw into.)

The real bad news is that the lever is easily lost and nobody repos the part.

      Jim:

Thank you very much for the information and sketch of the missing piece. Now I know what to look for to correct the situation. Again thanks.
