    68 wiper door

68 wiper door doesnt go up or down? The wipers work when I manually open the wiper door. I started the car and tried the override switch, Nothing? When I manually close the door, the wipers will not go on, which i believe to be correct. How does the vacuum and the over ride switch talk?
    Thanks

Joseph you are correct, when you manually close the wiper door the arm that moves to the firewall that activates a electric switch connection is pulled back so the wipers will not work. The electric switch button has to be pushed by the arm to enable the wipers to work.
Will the pull down switch for the wiper door to leave the wiper door up for quick activation of the windshield wipers open the wiper door? The override switch is used to stop the wipers up on the windshield so you can change the wiper blades or clean the wiper blades should not be used to turn the wipers on/off for general use.

Vacuum. Check the wiper door relay on the right fender. If it's good, check the wiper door actuator.

        Joe,

Do your lights work? Just checking to see if you have vacuum... If you have vacuum then You need to check the components mentioned above with a hand vacuum tester or test the items with the engine running. On the top of the relay that operates the wipers there is a small hose. Pull that hose and see if you have vacuum to it. There should only be vacuum to it in one of the two positions of the override pull down valve. If there is vacuum there, then check the vacuum lines at the actuator. In one position of the override you should have vacuum on one end of the actuator, then switch the position of the override valve and you should have vacuum to the other hose on the actuator. With these simple tests should be able to see if your actuator and relay are working. good luck
