    63 FI Choke Missing Parts

    Hi,
Just purchased a 63' FI and have not been able to achieve fast idle. Today I removed the choke cover plate to have a look and found very little inside. There is no spring or heat shield. Also, the lever that I believe should be activated by the coil spring is broken off just after the attachment screw. Although I don't have a good exploded parts diagram of this assembly, am I right to assume this is my problem? If so, any good sources for the parts?
    Thanks,
    Al

Hi Al, As a member I am not supposed to be selling parts here as unethical and I could be canned.

Al do you have the 63 shop manual? If not click on the top of the page as NCRS sells the manual.
Then turn to page 6M-43. Look at fig 90 etc. You will be impressed as it's exactly what you are looking for in the way of a breakdown.
Now don't look tooo close at the casting though as the general used a prototype sand cast unit for the illustrations. But your production air meter/choke assembly is about the same as the pics.

62, 63 and early 64 FI's did NOT use a choke piston in the choke housing. Actually RP borrowed the choke housing from carburetors. Later 64 and 65 did in fact use a choke piston.
Some say the units start a little easier with the choke piston.
But you don't need it. You say you have no fast idle. Its no wonder.
      Thanks, John D.

Jorjorian, Thanks for good compliment. jr
