Help on 60 Lower rad hose

I am replacing my original radiator and am planning on a Dewitts Aluminum rad, so I removed the original copper/brass rad and noticed something that didn't look right to me on the lower rad hose. There is a shield that was put on the lower rad hose near the water pump inlet. It looks like the lower rad hose is not on the water pump properly.

It looks like the enginge mounting bolt is too long or is the hose was not attached properly? Regardless it looks like an interference that shouldnt be, so the shield was put on to prevent the bolt from damaging the hose.. but it just doesnt seem right.

    Any coments and help appreciated.

Looks like the shield is protecting the hose from the fan belt. Is the fan belt hitting the mount as well?

There was a thread on the on forum about bubba-isms and one guy used a lot of Pepsi cans in the day for temporary repairs. I remember using baling wire for a lot of things (muffler hanger.

make sure you have the correct generator bracket and adapter, if you don't, the belt can get awfully close to the hose and you would need the bubba shield,

Doug, How do I determine if I have the correct bracket and adapter?

            Joe -

Noland's Vol. I book has several illustrations and drawings showing the dimensions of the brackets and adapters.

Can you flip the bolt over so head is facing hose, might be easy fix.

Looks like between the bolt and the fan belt. I must have the wrong bracket for the Generator, or a wrong pully somewhere.. Still trying to sort it out..

I think I finally got to the bottom of this bubba fix... there is no plate between the generator and the exhaust manifold.. the generator was bolted directly to the exhaust manifold via the U bracket.

I am going to install the plate this weekend and keep you posted. Hopefully this will solve this bubba fix!

If that's the engine mounting bolt through the mount crossmember, it should be installed with the head down, nut on top. That should remove the bolt to hose interference.

Thanks Rod, I will do this also.

                        Here is the update..

I reversed the bolts on the engine mount bracket.. Put the proper bracket between the generator bracket and the manifold.

Good news, the fanbelt was raised and out of the way of the lower rad hose. I didnt put the rad in yet cause... well the bad news.. i put the water pump pulley spacer and the fan back on and now the generator pulley is a little off, but the lower pulley is too far off..

the lower pulley is a single pulley..

I am wondering if the wrong harmonic balancer was used..

I will send some pics to better explain.. but appreciate any suggestions to allign the pulleys..

all harmonic balancers are the same, you are either missing the spacer that makes up for the motor mount plate, it goes between the balancer and the timing chain sprocket on the crank, or you have the wrong lower pulley

As Doug was saying, also changes were made later in 58 to a bunch of stuff that affected alignment of all you are talking about, you may have some 57 parts and some 59 parts and if they dont jive then you will have these rubbing probs, some of the venders you buy from ask that the parts you order are in accordance with these certain years so the all mate correctly, a spacer or pulley at 1/4 to 1/2 inch could mess it up, so you need all parts to be same yaer. Thanks, Brad.
