Guys, I have always used fiber wheel bearing grease on cars with drum brakes and ones with ball bearing type bearings. I am ready to pack the wheel bearings on my '56 and for the life if me I can't find the grease I thought I had. Does anyone know of a source for this type of lubricant? Thanks in advance! I think that long fiber greases are, basically, obsolete, at least for automotive applications. I don't know of a source for them, anyway.
GM has specifically not recommended the use of long fiber greases for as long as I can remember. I think you'd be better off using a modern grease. GM #12377985 is one that I would recommend, even for the ball bearing application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Source For Fiber Wheel Bearing Grease
Kenny and Joe, thanks for your response to my post on fiber wheel bearing grease. I will probably try one of your suggestions as there does not seem to be a source that I can find for this particular grease. In the research I did, there appears to be only 2 or maybe 3 places in the US that still possibly make petroleum products such as grease and I have not comfirmed this as of yet. This is definitely a far cry from the way it used to be. It seems that today that most greases are made in India, China, or Malaysia. Whatever happened to "made in the USA". Thanks again! Liberals that do not want any manufacturing of any kind in our country. To and include refinery's. There hasn't been one of those built in our country in many years. That is what has happened to manufacturing. Altough I will say al[green] gore still owns a large percentage of Occidental Petroleum. I do understand there are permits being/have been issued for a new refinery in New Mexico. And we wonder why we have to import so much refined petroleum product.Dick Whittington- Top
