If you are doing a 67 inside day/night mirror. The best way to go at this is to heat up the the gray rubber. You can do this by putting the mirror assembly in a pan of water and heating up on the stove. Once it becomes very very hot remove the assembly, ware gloves, the rubber will be pliable enough to roll the rubber edge back and you should be able to pop the mirror out. If not put a putty knife under the mirror working it back and forth until the mirror pops out, be careful not to scuff the rubber with the edge of you putty knife. You then can peal the gray rubber off of the SS. Clean the rubber with cleaner of you choice, buff the SS, purchase new mirror from Paragon, about $40. Reheat rubber, install glass. Super glue gray rubber to SS and you are done. Hope this make sense.
If you need any help you can call or e-mail me.
These mirrors are one of the things that I restore and sell at Bloomington.

PS the mirror is not glued to the gray rubber. Its the old backing of the silvering process that is stuck to the rubber.

The Spring issue of The Restorer has an article on just this subject...the magazine left the printer today.
