I am trying to remove the inside gas pedal linkage on a 69. At the top of the linkage there is a plastic grommet that holds the cable to the pedal assembly. The assembly manual said that you need a special tool to install it. I can't get the grommet out. How do I get the plastic grommet out and what special tool are they talking about. thanks for the help

Re: Gas pedal cable removal/installation
If the dash is assembled it is a major pain to do but it can be done. They probably used a special tool at the factory to make it easier to install.
You will need to push the grommet out from the back side. It is a split grommet that allows the cable to pass through the side but not the larger ball. It has a ring on the end to snap into the pedal assembly.- Top

Joe
It's very tight, I removed the steering wheel and the drivers seat to give my self more room. I would also disconnect the cable at the carb so you have more slack to work with. Even with all this it still took and hour of messing around and %#*^! to get it replaced.

Re: Gas pedal cable removal/installation
John,
I got done. I used your method of unhooking the cable at the carb. It gave me the extra room that I needed. What a difference it made in the pedal. Before it was almost to the floor now it stands ready for some four barrel workouts.
Thanks Again- Top
