Re: '66 Yenko Racer on Ebay
Bill, there is no documentation as to how the car was configured from the factory. The only things I see are roll bar stickers, log book, a reference to ten previous owners and some pictures stated to be of the car. The VIN can be matched car to log books but that is it.

Re: '66 Yenko Racer on Ebay
RE: the 66 L-88. "Cheetah Bob" is the owner in Arizona and seems to have the right answers and seems to be a legit car. Original owner who was friend of Yenko, who had him order car and backdoor the L-88 and other rare options as was typical of the research Yenko was doing for Chevy and Duntov. Original owner is still alive and will confirm the car is a M-22 and L-88. Subsequent owners also still alive will also confirm the cars configuration. Many pix the owner has seems to indicate it is a yenko car as was raced in 66-67. So......can it be documented as a real L-88, M-22, NO3 Yenko car even though there is no direct paperwork of motor etc and justify the $250K asking price?- Top

Re: '66 Yenko Racer on Ebay
The Ebay listing states that the headers made by Bob Thomas produced 150 HP more then other headers.
My header expert friend told me that the headers Thomas used were made by Douglas Muffler and were no better then any other available header, most likely not as good as the average header.- Top

I still have a receipt for a set of Doug headers that I bought at Bill Thomas Engineering in 67. I think he was a distributor for Dougs.Bob

Re: '66 Yenko Racer on Ebay
This particular 1966 Corvette was not included in my L-88 Racing book. Now, that doesn't mean that it does not have a colorful racing history.
I only featured photos from big events, as they were the only photos that I could possibly find for inclusion into my book.
The photos from the 70s look as if they might have been taken at Road Atlanta.- Top

Re: '66 Yenko Racer on Ebay
OWNER BOB AUXIER HAS DONE A GREAT JOB TRYING TO FIND ALL THE HISTORY. For anyone who has been here, you know how hard it is especially after people have passed.
this is the story so far, and every day, new information comes forward.
66 Corvette cp, vin #16xx5, raced since new. Red / black, L-88 special driveline, one of 9 cars, 10 owner history starting in New York. Was a backup car to Yenko ? bought thru Penske ? 1st owner Harold Whims. Was a backup car to Harold's 1st 1966 racer #8, which was a white / black L-88 factory car also that was totaled in a race wreck. History is extensive from Daytona, Talladega, Road Atlanta, Chimney Rock, Savannah, Charlotte, Summit, Watkins Glen, Pocono, VIR. Car raced from new thru 1987. Three log books exisit and pictures from 1972-87. This car is about 270 cars before the DAVE HEINZ # 57 / TOD OSEID coupe that Eric Gil displayed at NCRS Florida Regional in January. Be patient guys, there is more history that is being researched daily. I think with the help of he internet, knowledge comes out on these cars very rapidally. We know Chevrolet made them, just which ones are not 100% known yet. We have very good history on 7 of the 9. Stay tuned.Attached FilesOver 80 Corvettes of fun !
