    Torque Verifications Please

    I am rebuilding the front suspension on my 67 small block car. I have torqued the upper ball joint nut to 90 ft lbs and the lower to 125 ft lbs. I found these values in the AIM on page G157. I have been using my 1967 Chassis Manual for my torque specs, but was unable to find the torque values in this manual and wanted to verify the correct values.

    Thanks for the feedback--Mark

      Mark;
      Just went through this process. The upper set at 50 lbs. the lower set to 80 lbs. I got these values form my '66 to '82 Corvette only shop manual (bought from NCRS). I also used torque specifications from Vette Brakes and Products, since some of the torque specs in ASM manual seems wacky.
      Good luck,

        Mark -

        The upper ball joint nut torque spec is 40-60 ft-lbs. ('67 Assembly Manual, UPC 3, sheet A3, item #15, torque symbol 6. 90 ft-lbs. is significantly over-torqued.

        The lower ball joint nut torque spec is 70-95 ft-lbs. (same sheet, item #6, torque symbol 3. 125 ft-lbs. is permissible as the absolute maximum in order to insert the cotter pin.

          Thanks to those who have responded. I will re-torque to the values supplied by John.
