      Tom;

I know nada about 71's, but just curious about the blue painted transmission. Otherwise looks pretty clean including some markings. Should be interesting to hear from C-3 owners.

I agree I know nothing about 71's either. I was really hoping Dick Whitington would see it and take a look. Tom

I don't own an automatic C3, but I'm fairly sure the automatic transmissions weren't blue...I'm thinking natural, both on the housing and the pan. Maybe it's a rebuilt transmission, and the rebuilder's color is what the restorer thought they were supposed to be. That kind of calls the quality of the whole restoration into question; I would definitely check the transmission numbers.

Frame is a little too glossy IMO, and it appears to have been blacked out near the frame rails Underbody fiberglass is natural except for minor overspray near the frame rails and some undercoating near the rear differential. Beyond that, you would have to take it item by item with more photographs.

          Did you have specific reservations?

I would not expect to see any blue

Looks like a nice driver that's had some money spent on it. Hard to tell from one picture, but I don't see anything too awful bad. Don't care for the blue tranny, but that's minor.

I've been trying to figure out the roughness on the fiberglass pans under the seats...I also believe the underbody has had some fiberglass repair. That may be why they've used semi-flat black paint on some areas of the underbody fiberglass...they're trying to conceal some rough repairs.

Edit: Oh, yeah, Dude, this is totally messed up right here. There are supposed to be two reinforcing plates that the front of the seat rails bolt to/through. It appears that just the ends of those plates are visible with extra long bolts, and the rest of the plates has been covered over with resin and mat.

It looks to me as though the floor pan on the right side is cracked. Then I see what looks to be undercoating where it should'nt be and to much of it.

That blue-painted transmission has got to go. The problem is that you'd have to remove the transmission from the car, so it's probably not worth it. The THM-400 should be natural cast aluminum with the tin parts being natural steel. This blue must be some commercial transmission rebuilder's idea of how to make a transmission look "pretty".

Trans crossmember drops out without much problem. Borrow a transmission jack and you're good to go.

I was thinking "ugly" more than "pretty."

Tom, I have learned not to make many comments on photos, and very few on what I actually see.

                          Re: Opinions on 71 underneath.

                          My comments:

Floorboard injury; may also be missing drain hole & plug on that side; I can't tell.

                          Blue transmission

                          U-joints have been replaced.

Flat black trans mount; probably cheap Chinese piece

Frame a bit glossy; possible powder coated?

Rear crossover brake line not aligned correctly. The "dip" in it should be centered not off to the left.

Battery ground cable has exposed copper wiring. Eventually this will corrode and cause major issues. This comment based on the "personal experience" factor.

That's what I see on first glance.

I first thought that roughness was undercoating also, but I believe its resin and mat "as laminated".
