I'm getting ready to buy tires for my car and am trying to decide whether to buy 4 or 5 tires. I know the judges would like to see an original spare and it does not have to match the other four tires. The spare is a B.F. Goodrich Silvertown, non-DOT, 6.70-15, 4 ply. The car is a 64 built on October 30, 1963. The only unique code that I see on the tire is molded into the rubber sidewall. It is imprinted in reverse (need a mirror to read). The number looks like "1163??0806". It is difficult to read because some of the rubber bled over the number during the molding process. Is there anyway to tell if this could be the original spare? Also, it has been used so there is wear on the tread. A new repro tire would certainly show a lot better.
Bottom line: show it or replace it?
