    1971 Flat tire

I had a flat on the front drivers side tire. I have Kelsey white letter bias ply tires on the car (F70X15. I had to use fix a flat to get to a garage, since my spare was not inflated (who would have thought you need to check these occassionally) I am now using my spare as the front tire and relegated the formerly flat tire as a spare. Can the repaired tire be used again with confidence. Thanks!

It all depends on WHY the tire went flat. Was it a defective valve stem? Was it a puncture?

If a puncture, was it in the tread and plugged? If so, it's probably A-OK to use for the balance of its useful life.

If the puncture was in the sidewall, I'm not sure I'd trust the repair...

I agree with Jack. Punctures can be plugged with little hassle down the road as long as it's done by someone familiar with the process. A puncture in the sidewall I would not run personally.

The safest way to repair a puncture is to remove the tire from the rim and install a patch on the inside. Even though it is done quite often, plugging is not the proper way to repair a tire.

WARNING: Do your homework first on this. Not sure about other states, but in Michigan, infinite wisdom has enacted a law that dis-allows a tire shop to mount/re-mount a tire of >10 years in age. This is some of the fall out from the infamous Firestone debacle of a few years back. (Don't ask me how I know this...)

Some smaller garages may be a way to go. I didn't look to far. Decided instead to take matters into my own hands. All worked out fine.
