    Short throw shifter

    On my 67, the shifter linkage is in the short throw position. 2nd & 4th gears on the console do not come back far. Is this correct? Thanks, Bill

    Bill,

    The shifter linkage was set up in the long throw position from the factory, so that would be the correct configuration. The short throw configuration would be owner preference but it would not have come from the factory that way.

      Bill,

      I have a 67 adjusted for short and it is as you describe.

        Bill -

        Yes. The throw will be shorter in all gear positions.

          Is this a 67 era linkage thing? I have a 63 w/ Muncie, but believe the only change I could ever make to mine would be to use passenger car levers and linkage - and that would be longer (not good).

            Stu -- this short throw thing started in the 1965 MY.

              Wayne;

              Kinda figured that was the case, but I didn't know the specifics. Thanks.
              I'll butt out now.

                Just remember if you are going for PV, short throw will be a failure on PV.

                  Good point (judged in condition of factory assembly with typical dealer prep). I'll always remember my only new car; a '72 Corvette 4-sp convertible. Even though it was my 4th Corvette, it was the first with the long throw, and I couldn't stand it . I returned to the dealer and the SOaG charged me $35 to switch the rods to the short-throw position.

                    That DOES seem like a huge amount dollars in those days. Did you not have a friend at a gas station? 2 minute job at tops. Once it's on the lift. Bill

                      Much more fun to drive in short throw set up. Throwing fast shifts is what the muncie 4 speed is all about. Hurst has nothing on a stock shifter when in short throw.

                        But this is the ONLY place it would cause an issue in either Flight or PV judging. Can't speak to Bowtie, but I doubt it would be an issue there.
