1965 automatic trans

The linkage on the automatic trans which way does the linkage go.
Does the clevis go on the shifter lever or does it go on the trans bell
crank. I have seen it both ways and does it matter. Cant remember
which way it was when i took it off.

Here's a pic of my '66 tunnel with shifter removed. Clevis fits on shifter lever (same set up, '65-'67).
