    89 Exhaust System/Mufflers missing

I just picked up a 89 Convertible with 79,311 miles on it.
The previous owner decided in 96 to remove the rear mufflers and exhaust tips, replacing them with straight pipes and aftermarket tips. It has the rear Y-pipe just no mufflers or factory tips. I don't know what I need to go back with. I would like to look correct as much as possible while having some rumble to it. It's an automatic also. Some photos would be appreciated as I don't know what I'm missing. Thanks guys

If you're sure you have the REAR "Y" pipe, then really all you are missing is the mufflers and, perhaps, muffler hanger brackets. The original exhaust tips were part of the muffler assemblies and not a separate part.

The original left side muffler assembly was GM #10097679 and was last available as GM #10201709. The original right side muffler assembly was GM #10097680 and was last available as GM #10201708. However, all are now discontinued.

      Thanks Joe,
I have the correct Y-Pipe...I think. It appears to be the original one.
I'm a C-3 70's guy and don't know alot about C4's. I bought this one for my daughter; she and this car are the same age, within 4 months of each other. I would like someone to post a photo of what a 89 rear exhaust should look like, so I can purchase a correct set up or a close reproduction from Walker or some other manufacture.
Appreciate the responce, I'll keep the #'s on file incase I get lucky.

John I don't know what the 89 mufflers had. My 85 still has it's original mufflers. Each muffler has two outlet exhaust tips but only one of the exhaust tips is actually functional.

          Hi John !

Here's a real 89 exhaust setup taken off of a 5000 mile convertible, years ago. Numbers match Joe Lucia's numbers. Forgot I even had it until I read your post. Hope these shots help. The date I shot is from the flange on the Y.

Note the "dings" in the mufflers, especially the ones seen on the right side of the 10097679 in your second photo. These sort of "dings" are often see in NOS GM mufflers of applicable to all year models as well as PRODUCTION mufflers on brand new cars. I'll bet the "dings" seen in the area I described, as well as many of the other "dings", were there "from the beginning".

              Good observation.

I know the dings have been in this set for as long as I've had it. This setup was removed in the early 90's.
