Thanks Jack. I understand now. Is it possible to fix the "stop"? If so, how difficult is it to disassemble? Or should I just send it out? Other than that one problem it's playing fine now. Thanks again

The switch can be removed from the control. There are metal tabs holding it together. The switch is the part on the back end of the control. Not sure what you will find if you get it apart. There is no reason cleaning the control would trash the switch. They are independant assemblies - the only common part is the shaft. The volume goes loud when the wiper goes past the end of the carbon element and then contacts the other end of the element.

Jerry - interesting how you have managed to save pots that were on life support. I thought I was good at this sort of thing - I have fixed many things over the years that took 'thinking outside the box'. But I have to admit - I never tried this. (I'm just now getting around to reading this post). -Dan-
