66 Heads Casting

OK, 1966 Coupe is a 327, 300 hp 4-speed VIN 194376S124450. Plate K07, Pad F0520HH, Block 174, Cast C 28 6. Question is: Heads removed from block are: #3890462, dated = D 27 6 & E 02 6. Could these be original ??

Short answer...Yes.

Long answer...Your car is a late production 1966. Birthday calculator suggests 6/18/1966. Pad stamp says 174 engine (300 hp, Manual trans, A.I.R.) was cast on 3/28/66 and assembled 5/20/66. 462 heads were used on late production 1966 models and yours were cast 4/27/66 and 5/02/66. All looks good to me.

I also have a very late 1966 327/300, VIN 6S127592, K28, with original 3890462 cylinder heads. The dates are F 14 6 and F 8 6. I think you're okay with those heads on a late 1966 small block.

There are several late 66 174 blocks with 462 heads owned by members who use this board. It's not unusual.
