      Re: swirl marks

I painted a black 67' chevelle using lacquer and swirl marks were a problem. After trying fine glaze as mentioned I was not pleased, so I finally found after trial and error that a clean wool pad with very light amounts of water and compound, warm tempuratures, a varable slow speed buffer, indirect sunlight and lots of time resulted in a great finish. I did not wax or glazed as that caused more swirl marks on fresh paint, but this summer will be a year since painted and I will try to seal the paint with glaze or wax depending on test panel results. I wet sanded and finished with 2500 grit paper that made buffing easy but losted all orange peal that will result in deductions on a corvette being judged. Steve

The PC is a great tool and will keep you out of trouble if you never have used a buffer.
I recommend using the foam pads with the velcro backing for easy attachment and removal. They come in different densities for certain applications depending on condition of paint and product you are going to apply.
I think I've tried just about every product on the market and prefer Adams products at this time, but cleaning products are like shoes, its what you like and are confortable with.
Adams and Mequirers both have a good product line and have websites with FAQ sections which you should review, both will send you a CD to help you with the methods of using the buffer and products.
One of the keys to using a buffer is work an area about 2' x 2' and keep your buffer moving, inspect that miro-fiber towel on regular basis for build up or any dirt while you keep after the areas.
Good luck, its fun once you get the knack and see yourself in the paint like a mirror.
Practice on the Toyota is a grand idea!!!!!
One last FYI. Hand wash those microfiber towels with Ivory soap and air dry, they will retain their softness and tecture.

Steve, your in a different class if you can paint a car. I can paint my house and that's pushing it. My wife won't let me paint inside if that tells you anything.
Micheal, I watched the junkman2000 that sells Adams produces. He's funny and very informative. He takes his time to explain alot of things others think we know. I will try some of his products.
Thanks guys for the input it all good. PS I'm not painting any cars in the near future. Well, maybe the Toyota. Joe

Have a look at cyclo polishers as well.
