    1960 rear (tail light) assembly

    Two questions:

    1. The lamp assembly, the chrome part, of my tail lights has a part number 5948765 and GUIDE RIC-58 in the casting. However my 1960 AIM has part number 899056 for the "Lamp Assembly". Does anyone know what the 5948765 is for?

    2. The lamp assemblies are reasonably complete but obviously have some pitting and scratches. Are they worth rechroming? I can buy reproductions of the complete assemblies, Chrome piece and lens for about $600 a pair. But if the ones I have are correct for 58-60 corvette and can get them rechromed for reasonable price, that is the way I will go.

    Thanks,
    Don Harris

    Don -

The 5948765 is the CASTING number for the raw zinc die-cast housing; 899056 is the PART number for the plated and completed lamp assembly as delivered to St. Louis (housing, socket, bulb, lens, molding, and screws).
