I have a 69 convertible and just purchased a halon fire extinguisher. Is there a specific place that it should be placed in the car for Judging? Or should it be taken off for judging.

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
Typically, the fire extinquisher is removed from the car and placed in a 'standard' location (e.g. near the spare tire) but the judging chairman responsible for your meet should tell you his preference here...
Essentially, it wants to be out of the way of judging team traffic, BUT close enough such that it's readily available in a bona fide emergency situation.- Top

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
From a judging perspective the Operations team will verify the fire extinguisher is present. That team also looks for the NCRS decal and battery cut-off switch.
After that it is, as Jack points out, a matter of keeping the extinguisher out of the way of traffic and still keeping it close enough at hand to be available should it be necessary to use it.Terry- Top

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
I have seen some who "hard mount" the holding bracket either in the floor space on the passenger side or immediately behind one of the seats. This has always bothered me as I hate to see anyone punch unnecessary holes in a nice Vette just for that purpose, as righteous as it may be. I have found that a little "hook" velcro works well to at least keep the Extinguisher in place on the carpeting. I also use it for my other temporary items like my CD player. I use that same principle for the other components of my stereo system, i.e. all the wiring is all separate and adapted to plug into the existing faston connector, etc. I didn't splice anything into the original wire loom anywhere, and all aftermarket items I have added to improve the pleasure of my Vette can easily be removed and/or replaced back to original in short order.

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
Thanks for the responses. I like all of the ideas and suggestions. It makes sense not to permanently attach it to the interior. The Velcro idea is good and I think I will use it in a place that will Keep it secure in case of an accident.- Top

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
I have seen fire extinguisher mounts which use a seat front attaching bolt for a hold-down -- at least on C2 & C3 Corvettes. There may be something similar for newer Corvettes also, since they would present a greater market for the bracket. Just something else to consider.Terry- Top

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
I do not think that I would want to drive a car with a 5# + missle attached only with velcro. I do not think that it would stay in place during an accident. Probably could make a very nasty dent in your skullDick Whittington- Top

Re: Placement of Fire Extinguisher
I have mine immediately behind the bulkhead back of my seats in my 63. The only way it is going to go anywhere is in a rollover, and then I do not rate my chances very good in a C-2 convertible with nothing but lap belts to hold me in and protect me from all those hard objects on the doors and dashboard.

Were did you purchase the holder it looks like a winner. The glove box idea would not work since the 69 does not have a glove box. But thanks for the idea.- Top
