    C1 Radiator

I am considering putting in an aluminum direct fit radiator vs. brass replacement radiator for my 58 project. The original is pretty dented up and I don't think it can be saved. I would like to have my car judged. How accurate are these replacement radiators? Will I lose a lot of point with them? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Jim -

The DeWitt's A 5 5 M, painted black, will probably take a minor deduction for configuration, but you'll never have to look at the temperature gauge again. It's as close as you'll get to looking like the original, other than re-coring your original with your tanks and the DeWitt's honeycomb copper/brass core.

When the aluminum first came out some judges weren't aware of that repro and didn't check. I don't know the current judges view. The one I have in my '60 is very close. Don H.

i would try to save the old radiator if it is a correct dated original. the tanks are always dented. i had a good radiator shop replace the whole fin assembly (core) while retaining the original top, bottom and sides, it looks exactly like the original and it cools fine. jim o

to have your radiator recored it will probably cost $1000. the core alone is $495 plus shipping. if bracket is bad add another $95. i certainly would not use dented tanks if i was going to spend that type of money. i would search ebay for a old radiator with nice tanks and use your original tag.
