OK, I can see every body's point. So here is a interesting point on points. According to the manual the entire frame is worth 5 points originality and 5 points condition. Try to picture a full deduction for a missing frame........ the car would only loose 10 points. At the other end of the scale the emissions label is worth 20 points half each for originality and condition. If missing a full deduction of 20 points for the no show on the label.

What does the decal cost?.......$4 with a 10 second installation. A frame is about $5 grand and a how long to assembly?

Talk about cost per point, I'll do the decal any time over a frame.

Part of the points assignment is not only so that the part is present but also so that it is accurately represented. I know that the points assigned per item differ over time, and once a very accurate reproduction arrives on the scene the points assigned usually decrease with the next revision of the judging sheets.

Since "no one" will show up without a frame, minimal points are assigned. However, with the label it is cheap to install but also currently easily detectable. If a more accurate repro arrived on the scene I "suspect" that the points assigned the decal would go down.

At least, that is the short version of how it was once explained to me...

It is interesting how some of the $/point are really skewed on both ends.

I stand correctly. I lost 2 judging points for no date. My apologies for attempting to disseminate misinformation. lolol.

The No date ONLY deduct should be 20% off...

I can tell you as the National Judging Chairman of NCRS, the Team Leaders and I have never and I repeat never assigned points based on a dollar value basis. Point assignment has nothing to do with the dollar value of a reproduction or original piece and everything to do with consistent deductions on a graduated scale given the parameters we work with. The last major rework of the point assignments was some 11 years ago, that rework was to balance points not from part to part or for dollar value but to balance points from class to class so that fiberglass was the same across all years, bumpers were the same across all years, seats were the same across all years, exhaust was the same across all years, etc. Never had anything to do with dollar value of anything, still doesn't and never should. So yes there will be a big variance when you look at dollars per point, because frankly as stated that should not be our concern in attempting to provide accurate evaluation and assessment of either original or restored corvettes.
