    correct 70 trans case 661 or 660?

i was looking at the trans on my 70 bb car trying to figure what is correct and what is not. the 4 speed trans in the 70 454 has a 660 case. i compared it to my 70 lt1 and it has a 661 case. i know the 661 is correct for the lt1 but not sure about the bb car. is the 660 correct or should it also have a 661? here is a pic of the lt1 661 case.

Mike -- I'm no expert, but I follow these apparent inconsistencies on the many 4-speeds posted by eBay sellers. Seems that EARLY 1970 model year cases continued with the "660"; ie. those date coded P0Mxx and P0Pxx, (and maybe later as well).

Does this jive with the VINs of each of your cars ?

      P.S. here's one on eBay now: Chevelle P0M14B (August 14th 1969 ?)

      Here's another off an early '70 Norwood Camaro: P0P08C (Sept 8th, 1969; M22)

          Mike,

For what it's worth, my November built L-71 '69 has the 661 case. The "1" is very faint, like someone had made a change on the mold before it was cast. Just curious, is the correct VIN stamped on yours?

            Mike,

This is the original trans in my June '70 BB.

I would be looking at the Vin# stamping and the trans. assembly date.
