    Interior Color

The trim code for my 71 is 420 which I have determined is the code for a tan interior. I want the car to be correct and since I don't have any of the old interior pieces for reference, how can I determine what shade of tan the interior should be? Is there a color chart somewhere?

John, 420 is light saddle, it was the same 70-72 I believe.

      John,
420 code for a 71 is dark saddle leather. Corvette Central has an interior dye that is almost dead on the correct color. I touched up my interior and I am happy with it and I am a PITA, ask my wife!

When I redid my 70 saddle,(I had painted it silver), I was lucky enough at the time to get the original formula dupont interior paint mixed at a body shop supplier. At that time I was told that once the tints in stock ran out there's no more. The color was right on. The drivers door panel in my photo is painted, and also the w/s moldings/ steering column. The dash/console/ pass. side door panel are original.(new seat covers) You may get lucky and find a supplier, or try here......

          John,

71 420 is dark saddle LEATHER, not the beige vinyl shown.

I have posted pictures of my late build '71 with a 420 code.

My point was to show the paint match to the original vinyl using the dupont interior paint on my 70, not to suggest it IS the color for 71.(which for 70 is just plain old saddle... no dark/light)

              Dennis,

I understand. We all want to help our fellow members. I just did not want someone with a 71 without any interior parts to reference from to make a wrong choice. So many members here have helped me get it right and saved me a pantload of money buying and then redoing after I learned.

I meant no slight to you and your post of really cool pictures, nice car too.

Thanks for the replies. So, it looks like I will be going with the dark tan (with leather) interior.

Ken, the after market parts catalogs list 70-72 as a light saddle is this a screw up or do they just use one color for these years?

                          Edward,

That's definitely incorrect. 1970 had two versions of a "brown", but neither were dark saddle as called for in 1971.
