67 Stamp Pad-What was the sequence of the pad stampings?

Trying to figure out the sequence of events of my 67 engine assembly and the stamp pad.

Was the date code on the stamp pad (V0626HE) put on in the Flint Engine Plant or at St. Louis?

At what point was the VIN derivative (7122049) stamped on the block? By the calculator, my car came off the assembly line on June 29, 1967, a Thursday.

06/26/67 was a Monday. The block casting code is F227 or 06/22/67, the Thursday before 06/26.

At what point would the carburetor be put on the engine? Before or after 06/26?

The reason I ask is that I'm putting on a Holley dated 763 which is the third week of June 1967. The third week of June 67, if you figure a full production week would start on June 19, 1967 (Monday) and ending on June 23, 1967 (Friday).

My K19 (June 19) AO Smith body must have been sitting in St. Louis waiting for a chassis.

It has always amazed me how close the dates were in those days.

But what's the sequence of the engine pad stamping, for posterity.

The engine date stamp operation was done at the engine plant.

The engine VIN stamp operation was done at St Louis, about 2/3 of the way down the engine dress line. (transmission at the same station) The carburetor would be installed within about 10 minutes of the VIN stamp. (I don't remember if before or after the VIN stamp)

Within about an hour of that, the engine/transmission was being installed in the chassis, and about an hour later, the body was on the chassis. About four hours after the engine was stamped, it was in the car and running.

The carburetor date would work well with that engine date.

The build process would require about two working days. Typically, a complete St Louis bodied vehicle would roll out the door the next work day after the date on the trim tag.

It is amazing how the material moved into the St Louis plant. Rail cars and semi trailers seemed to be in constant motion arriving/leaving the plant. Fork lift trucks also ran constantly moving material from loading docks to the storage area or directly to the assy line.

Jerry, my '67 engine was built on July 2nd and the car build date is L06 (July 6th). As you said, not much time in between. I often wondered how long it took to ship the engines to St. Louis. They must have fork lifted the engines from the rail car and put them straight onto the assembly line. PT

Unless your car had an AO Smith body.

Good point. I'll add that to my post.
