    '62 Rubber Transmission Mount

My '62's (4-speed) transmission crossmember is off the car for shifter work. The question is whether to replace the rubber mount. Should it require force to compress the rubber when bolting the rubber retainer to the crossmember? I can place the retainer against the crossmember without feeling any resistance of the rubber. If it needs replacing, are all the repro mounts the same or should I look to a particular source for this part? Thank you.

If I recall, there should be an insert in the center of each bolt hole in the rubber that actually keeps it from being compressed. You just snug the bolts up tight in the two center locations and all four on the ends, and the rubber accepts the road and torque shock.

Thank you for your reply, Mike. I was thinking that the central portion of the rubber took the load, but I see that the 2 end "doughnuts" take it.
