    C-3 heat sheilds/toe pans

Do these shields have a slight bend, or are they suppose to be flat in the area of the toe board? ( 72 coupe)

    Edward------

The lower firewall splash shields had about a 30 degree bend near the bottom. Otherwise, save for the bends to create the brackets on the top, they were flat.

Oh, Paul -- what lovely photos, but you missed details of the fuel pump (another thread) and the starter numbers (another thread also). So close, and yet so far away.

I recall noting those toe pans/shields were slightly bent, and I wondered about that -- but we were looking at them AFTER the PV. I was told Al didn't baby the car on the PV. I had always thought that curve came from the breeze as the car went down the road, but then there hasn't been much "down the road" for that car.

It certainly is an interesting issue Ed brings up.

It does appear that there is a secondary offset or bend in the shield. There were 2 different sets of shields used for 1972. Very early used shields GM #3976545 and 3976546. Later used shields GM #6262551 and 6263552. The shield in the picture is a left side shield of either GM #3976545 or 6263551. I have an NOS GM #6263551. However, I don't recall any secondary bend in it. I'd have to go dig it out to be sure, but I haven't the time for that right now.

Joe, let me know how you make out with the shield, I do have a late build 72.I think when I phosphated these sheilds I straighten them out thinking they were bent. whops!! The 72 ZR1 appears to be bent. Paul thanks for the pic.s
