It was definitely NOT finished with a "gold" dichromate overplate.

I believe the finish was a TIN plate. This appears somewhat like a very dull zinc or cadmium plate. The same or very similar finish was used for all 64-74 filler necks.

Agree.
It "almost" appears galvanized.

I had a friend plate the one for the orange 72 in a dull zinc and it looks very good. Not been judged yet but I have no reason to suspect it would not pass.
