    C2 Instrument lights wiring

    63 convertible, new harness

The AIM wiring diagram shows 7 "Inst Lamp" items, all gray 20 ga . I have 6 gray 20 ga wires with sockets that snap into the back of the instrument cluster. In the AIM Sect 12 Sheet B5.00 shows the instrument wiring, and I can't see what the seventh wire might be.

The wiring diagram shows two more gray 20 ga wires: one for "Ignition Lamp" and one for "Cigaret Lighter Lamp". I have two more gray wire: one 20 ga with a smaller bulb socket and an 18 ga with the same smaller socket, but also with a flat bracket. I can't see how these would connect to the ignition switch or cigaret lighter.

    All comments appreciated.

Steve, the 'flat bracket' for the ignition switch screws into a hole next to the ignition switch on the the back of the panel. The cig lighter light bulb goes into a special socket that hooks into the side of the lighter housing. If you could get some pictures from someone of them it will help. The lighter socket is often on Ebay or may be available from a Vendor. Good luck!

Thanks. I will look more closely at the ignition and lighter areas.

PS: I hope to be logging miles and collecting bugs soon.

Steve, happy motoring soon! Just a side note for 64 owners, the AIM shows 9 each 20 gage grey instrument lamps, mine only had 7 which was what the 63 AIM calls for. My car is a March 64 Coupe but still had the earlier configuration of lamps. The AIM page was dated 'redrawn 7-16-65' so the 64 page was long gone.

          Dan,
The wiring diagram in the 64AIM, pg 215 & 217, are incorrect. The correct diagrams may be found in the 64 Shop Manual Supplement and for 63 in the 63 Shop Manual. (At present forget what the exact differences are but did find at one time)
PS - more than 7) 20GY instrument lamps, Yes! Like 15 or so?

Thanks Alan, that's where I also found them. Only 7 on back of instrument cluster for 64, 65 had 2 more lamp holes, 9 total. Guess those guys wanted to see how fast they were going!
