    63 Harness 2983802 help

Need help to determine if 63 headlamp/motor harness 2983802 is original or not. All wire colors are correct per AIM 12/D1 and there are six black plastic ties holding harness to header panel per AIM 12/A4. However there are two additional white clips attached to harness as shown in photo with no place to attach to header panel. Also headlight motor connections are red, later mid years are black.

Car was built April 30th and has been sitting since early 70s so not sure if service replacement or original.

    Thanks
    Jeff

My April 20th car has black connectors. Looks to me like Bubba was playing under there.

I noticed the same white split push clips in our Feb 63 coupes' harness when I was in there alot last year. Couldn't figure how they could fit anywhere. There are holes in the upper reinforcement nearby, and recall I tried to get them closer but no way. My gut feel is they put the clips in the harness but never used them.

A friends very original 64 coupe has them too. I just rebuilt/cleaned the gearbox internals of the headlight motors and took a few shots in there the other day. You can just barely see one in this picture, pointing to around 2 o'clock. BTW, both motor harness connectors are green on this 64.

edit....I just noticed in my photo it looks like a hole in the reinforcement, and the white split clip is pointing to it. Is this hole on your 63? I'll check my 63 when I get out to the shop later.

Those clips do indeed snap into holes in the header reinforcement under the edge of the hood opening.

Here is some additional info which may shed some light.

AIM 12/A4 shows change to header harness clips dated 5/3/63 from 3768222 to 3844390. I'm assuming 3768222 was a black push tie clip. (6) were required which my car has still in place. Clip 3844390 was a metal clip replacing black tie, however only (4) were used. Other (2) holes were filled by white push clips attached to harness. This is confirmed by reviewing 67 AIM 12/A9 and my 66 survivor coupe built Nov 65 which has 3844390 metal clips and white harness push clips. This change over occurred timeframe of my April 30th car, new attaching method/new harness.

Also interesting is 67 AIM and 66 Coupe show solid color wires Tan/Black/Light Green for head light feeds. 63 AIM and my harness show same color wires with white stripes. I still can't explain red connectors though. Even the limit switch blue connectors with "AMP" embossed on them match my 66. Now I feel harness is original and I'll keep on car.

            Thanks

I think the 63 harness was the last to use a white stripe on the black ground wire. For 64 and later, the ground wire was solid black.

At start of the 64 model year, a new headlight harness/part number entered production.
