    Coil spring istallation help

I understand that the coil spring is to be placed with the end of the spring towards the uper tower .38 Plus or minus 12 . from the stop. How do you keep the spring end 3/8 of an inch from the end . Thanks for any help .

    Wayne,
Check out the thread below. I started the process of changing the springs last week on my 67 SB and got these responses when I asked. Steve actually comments on the question you asked:

Might also suggest searching "coil springs" in the search tab above. You will get other helpful suggestions. As most comment, SAFETY FIRST AND ALWAYS!! The last thing you want is a "loose" coil spring flying around your shop, I guarantee it will find the most expensive item in the garage and destroy it!! Good luckl! (and no I haven't finished mine yet, I'm retired so it takes me several days instead of several hours to finish jobs.

Wayne, by using the "threaded rod thru the shock tower method" you have a "loose" spring to start with, that can be aligned per the AIM dimension. It will be installed into the upper spring groove (where the alignment hole is) and then compressed with the threaded rod, until the lower "A" arm can be bolted to the frame.

As stated: SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY is very important!!!!

Thanks I have it installed. I bought a new frame from Collier and it doesn't have an alignment hole. What is the negative impact if the spring touches the upper end stop ? and yes I use the threaded rod.

I believe the hole was there to insure that the spring was fully seated in the groove and the end wasn't caught on the raised area of the frame.
