    '61 Brake Light Fuse Blown

On my '61, everytime I put a new fuse in, and press the brake pedal it blows the fuse. I have replaced the rear wiring warness but it still does it. Any ideas?

I would pull the steering wheel and check the turn signal switch. All of the tail light, stop light and turn signal voltages run through there. The way the wires are soldered onto the top of the switch has caused me many problems over the years. Good luck. Rich

I installed new turn signal wiring when I renovated the interior. I believe everything there is correct. Any other thoughts?

eliminate the easiest first, the switch. Simply remove the 20B (white Lead) from the brake light switch and see if the fuse still blows. The orange wire is 12 volts. If it does, the switch is shorted and an easy fix. If it does not, then some further troubleshooting is required. There has to be a short to ground down line.

I agree the turn signal switch can cause many issues. There could be a frayed wire shorting to ground in the column, could be a spliced wire that the tape has slid off and shorting out, etc.

One way you could test by disconnecting the battery and checking continuity between the white lead and ground. If there is continuity, leave the meter connected and start moving around the turn signal swich and harness to see if it opens up.

A wiring diagram is a must if this doesn't work. You didn't mention if this has always been the case or just occurred. If always since you have had the car, someone could even hve the leads switched around in the harness. I have found this on more than one occasion.

The only significant part between the brake switch and rear harness is the turn signal switch. You can unplug the rear harness to totally eliminate it

New doesn't mean OK. Lots of "new" parts are bad. I would start at the switch as was suggested and work back.

aren't courtesy lights on the same circuit ? make sure you have a 2 contact bulb, also i think clock is also involved disconnect it , double check wire colors at the 4 gang plug in , i wish i was closer i love a good electrical challenge.

the repo rear wiring harness i purcheased for my recently completed 57 was the offending agent in that the assembly line worker had switched two wires for the rear tailight. took a good day to run down the problem. and it wasn't the first time a repo wiring harness had a pair of wires mis-assembled. had a 67 coupe that had wires switched in it. as mentioned previously, a wiring diagram is needed to scope out the problem.good luck with your investigation.mike
