    39 years ago yesterday

Another year has gone by. It was 39 years ago yesterday that I purchased my '69 from the original owner. It had to stay in the garage until my 25th birthday for insurance reasons. A very long week and a half of just looking- no driving.

    Hey Jeff:

I remember my State Farm agent telling me that I'd better have other coverage for my '65 Corvette when my son turned 16, because State Farm wouldn't let me exclude him, and the premium would be huge until he turned 25. That must have been in the 80s. When the '65 turned 25 (1990) I switched to collector coverage. Kid was 10.

    Think spring.

      Hi Jeff,
      That's a pretty nice memory.
I too remember the insurance issues back then. I was over 25 when I bought my 71 and I believe the amount was $212. That still was quite a bit of money since I remember my rent on a nice apartment was about $100 a month.
I'll bet you really enjoy still having that 69!
      Regards,
      Alan

PS: I'm using your index OFTEN! Thanks again!

When I told my insurance agent (actually my Dadf's) that I wanted to buy a Corvette he told me that if I bought anything but a small block I shouldn't even call him for a quote because he would not insure it. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise because if I had bought a big block car I probably would have had to sell it in 1973 when gas went all the way up to 75 cents a gallon.
Alan- as I add the newly published articles to the index I will forward a copy to you.
        Jeff

When I returned from Nam in late 69, I purchased my red 66 while on leave. I drove it to Camp Lejeune only to find out my insurance company would not insure it while I was in the Corp. Something about a 20 year old single Marine and a Corvette didn't fit their underwriting model.

I had to swap vehicles with my Mother. She drove my Corvette while I had to drive her 66 Ford Station Wagon until I was discharged in early 1971.
