    63 master cap

I have two difference 63 master cylinder caps. One has large writhing and the other has small writhing. I think one is from a chevy impala maybe. I would like to know the correct on for a corvette.

I just had my 63 judged at the Florida Regional. The judges are looking for the small font size as the orignal cap. The repops have a larger font size. Bill

Gary, best I can recall both size fonts were used in 63 on the Corvette. But as Bill indicated the judges are looking for the small font.

What repops? Who is reproducing this item?

There are FOUR factory original versions of the cap: with large font and with small font. Then, caps with the full emboss and caps with the partial emboss (absense/presense of "Fill to 1/4" Below Rim").

The same cap was used in 1962 on several other GM cars/trucks. I suspect the full/partial emboss issue relates to a running change over time...

As far as the small vs. large font, my guess is there was MORE THAN ONE set of production tooling at GM considering the millions of units per annum these parts were spit out in.

While we may conclude this/that version of the cap was the ONLY version that saw the light of day in the St. Louis plant on the Corvette assy line, that's an educated guess based on judging observation(s) over time.

But, that does NOT mean the other three variations of the cap are somehow 'bogus' or 'reproduction' vs. GM/factory originals.

I have quite a few original examples.
there are definitely different fonts used,
and even different information stamped onto these caps.

not sure what years are what?
