    68 steering shock

Let me repost this question as I put it under the 63 steering question and its a different topic for up to 68's. Does anyone know when the steering stabalizer shock ASM actually discontinued in production? It showes a canceled page in the AIM 9 A3 with an effective date of April 20 1968. So would a March 8 car still have it, as mine doe not, and I have seen other #ed cars prior to the cnx date also without the shock? I didn't see anything on the threads on this timing issue.

I don't know the meaning of the cancelllation in the AIM but my late July 1968 car has one on it.

I see from your profile you have a BB car. BB's did not receive the steering shock.

I was really trying to understand the AIM, in this case for the SB (1900) application. I actually figured it out from the parts book, that the shock was N/A for 427's. I kind of wanted to know the timing from publication to production, ball park. I remember Joe saying it could sometimes take months. Another one is the frame change on the support for the kick up. 68's.

            Dale -

The change dates in the revision block on an A.I.M. sheet are unrelated to when that change actually took place in production; implementation of the change on the line was governed by the NPC (Notice of Production Change) system, and that was all internal paperwork in the Engineering, Purchasing, and Production Control files, which we don't have. The date on the A.I.M. sheet is simply the date the sheet was revised by the Engineering Graphics Group in the drafting room.

Most changes occurred weeks or months after the change date, and some occurred prior to the change date.

Thanks for the info. What happened to all that great documentation? I know all the records for our cars are gone but I never heard what the story was. Were they kept in that national military record center that burned and destroyed so many veterans records? Could it have been a political thing? Did they have shredders then
