For anyone contemplating having their seatbelts restored I would highly recommend Charlie Santorelli. He completed a set for me and did a wonderful job. Charlie's number 908-719-2354.

The seat belts are easy to remove from a 66 roadster. As you can see from the pictures, it's just one nut on the inboard side and one allen bolt on the outboard side. Just send them off, reinstall when they come back, voila! I had mine done by Ssnake Oyl.

'66 seatbelt restoration; outer boots

Joe,

Did Snake Oyl replace the large rubber boots on the outboard sides of your belts? Or did you reuse your original boots?

Ssnake Oyl replaced the rubber boots. One of my old ones had a tear in it.

Joe,

Were the Ssnake Oyl rubber boots repros of good originals? One of my boots is torn and as far as I know the repros are all configured differently. I think the repros have a slot where the long metal mounting arm goes thru and the originals don't; or vice versa.

After removing the seat belt send it to Charlie and he will take it from there. The extent of his restoration will depend on the condition of your belt, desired restoration and your pocketbook. He was very upfront and did what he said he was going to do.

Just went out and took a bunch of pictures. They all turned out bad. Just can't shoot good shots of the belts in the car. If you look at Tracy Crisler's picture. His look just like mine !!!

Charlie has restored several sets for me as has Ssnake-oyl. I prefer Charlie's work. He did the belts for my 69 Camaro recently as well as the ones pictured here for my 69 Corvette convertible.

With these, he just disassembled the units and replated what needed replating. He then removed the labels and gave the webbing and labels a good scrubbing which was good enough.
