1969 Ownres' manuals

Hello all. Did any first edition owners manual in 1969 come without the Corvette News card/tear off? I know 2nd edition available over the parts counter did but I was under the impression that first editions came with a new car purchase and had the card. Thanks for your help.

Jeff,
I believe all Corvettes delivered in 1959 and after had Corvette News cards. Some service (re-issue) manuals came without the cards but many also had them. Many re-issue manuals were second edition but not all.

I am considering purchasing a manual from someone who sent me pictures of a 1st edition in beautiful condition with all the Helms pages intact, etc. but he says there is no Corvette News card. If all 1st edition manuals had the card then the original owner must have removed it. Thanks again for your help.

I have a second edition HELM re-issue with no card or card stub. Maybe HELM re-issued a first edition also. Keep us posted when you get it. I'd be curious to know.

Jeff,
Even if the card was removed by the owner, there should be card stock stub left behind with the perforation notches where the card was torn from.

This was my thought also since the tear-off portion is at the outer part of the card. I have the original manual that came with my '69 and it has the complete card but the manual sat in the glove box for the 18 years I used it for daily transportation and it is not in great shape although complete so I thought I would get this one which appears excellent from the pictures he sent me. I'll let you all know what I find if I decide to purchase it.

Jeffery reference your 69's owners manual, does the remaining tear off portion say that the owner's card will have the key numbers imprinted? My 68's key numbers are imprinted on my plastic Corvette owner's card as written in my 68's manual. My 70's Corvette owner's card has only my name and VIN as written in my 70's Corvette owner's manual.

The remaining portion says "You'll receive a handsome Corvette owner identification card, embossed with your name and your car's serial number." Ther is no mention of key numbers. It is interestng to note that if someone has both a complete Corvette News card AND the owner's card, one of them did not come with the car since to get the latter you had to detach the tear-off from the page. Means nothing but just an interesting point.

Neither my 1969 nor my 1970 owner's cards have key codes on them.
