My fuel door lid is in good shape except for the flag which is pretty rough. The Trim Parts lid looks pretty close but I also see they sell just the insert with the flag. Looking at the lid it looks like the rivets must be attached to the bezel. If that is the case can the insert be removed and replaced without destroying the original appearance of the rivets? The most significant difference I see in the reproduction lid is the part number placement in the hinge area. DO these judge pretty well? I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

Re: 67 Fuel Door Lid Replacement
Steve,
The rivets you refer to are actually peened studs on the cover.
They must be collapsed or drilled out to separate the two pieces.
I suspect others have suggestions on how to relicate that "peening".
The repo will judge "pretty well", probably only receiving a point or two deduction. Variation from the TFP casting number configuration is the first thing the Exterior Judges look for.

Re: 67 Fuel Door Lid Replacement
Steve,
If it is just the paint on the emblem, you could try this experiment:
To get this:
Black is black and white is white, but what a bear to match that red in the emblem. Found that Colorado Red (for Chrysler cars) touchup paint (in the first picture) was the best match by my eye to the original red.
You float the paint on lightly, let it dry. Then with a lacquer thinner impregnated rag against a wood paint stick, you carefully rub the paint off the high spots on the emblem.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: 67 Fuel Door Lid Replacement
I had mine judged the last 2 years at Lone Star Regional. A repo fuel door lid was on and it got 1 point deduct. Since then I re-chromed / re-painted my original and intend to install the origional the next time I have it judged.

Re: 67 Fuel Door Lid Replacement
Steve, I repainted my original fuel door and only got a 1 point condition deduction due to some staining of some kind on the underneath side. I bought some of the red Chrysler paint mentioned earlier. It turned out OK. It's not as smooth as a repop nose emblem is, but the color is really good. Send me an email if you want a picture of it. I think I have a picture of it at home.Chris Enstrom
