was pleased with the chrome work but..

Had my 68 l36 chrome pieces under the hood re-chromed including valve covers, air cleaner lid, ignition shield, wing nuts etc..

so I would have all original pieces just re-chromed and looking good.

they did a great job however, they tore the plastic sheet of shielding under the LID of the ignition shield box, cut the rivets (no way around that really) and didn't return the washers that the rivets and peened into.

So, does any repro place make and exact copy of this plastic like shielding under the lid? or the washers? I have no clue how to get the correct washers since I don't have the original to compare to and I looked on paragon and a few others and they offer none of these pieces.

I have a deal going with the rivets so I can get those through a corvette forum member. That still leaves me after the plastic sheet and washers.

also if you have a 68-69ish ignition sheild box that has these pieces in good shape but the box is too dinged or rusted to restore I would buy the lid or entire box from you to get the plastic shield and washers.

ok I vented...haha. To be honest I didn't know the rivets, sheild and washers was there to even warn them about! found it after I got my pieces back.

wanted to give a heads up before anymore originals are lost the same way mine were.

Buy a bad chrome dist. top shield on e-bay after checking out the underside rivets and plastic cover is probably the way to go. Good Luck ! Steve

Brandon, there was recently a post on the rivits for the top shield. someone on the corvette fourm is making them. I would thing once you have the rivits you can find the flat washer size useing the rivit.

look in the archives for the post.

        Hi Brandon,
The washers that come with the rivets were a little too small compared to those on my 71 shield. I found a washer that comes with some pop rivets that seemed the right size but was aluminium. I ended up taking the washers off another shield as Steven suggests.
        Good Luck!
