I found a treasure in an old box

About forty years ago I had just bought my 66 roadster, (a 61 was my first car but it caught fire and melted) and I had a next door neighbor who had a 69 350 corvette and worked at a Chevrolet Dealership.

One day he comes over and gives me a book. It says Corvette 1953 Thru 1969 on the cover and has a lot of diagrams and pages and pages of numbered parts and just endless pages of lines of part numbers after each drawing.

Well , being 22 , why would I need a book full of numbers. Well I put it in a box and forgot about it. Last night I was going through some old boxes in the attic and I found the book.

My friend had given me the current dealership parts book for the corvette.
It has every assembly diagram and lists every part that the service department would need to fix a customer's car.

It has every bolt and their size , part # and how it fits. It was the computer screen of the time.

I have attached a few photos. If you need to know a part number, I now have a reference book to share with you. It looks like the book all the vendors stole pictures from, for their parts catalogs.

Tell me what you think and is this book common to have?

You may have to enlarge the photos to read the print. The forum program only allow so much pixes. If some body needs a good photo I will use photo bucket.

    Jack,

I'd love to see the pages on the 66 427 valve covers area oil caps, etc.

I remember this, but being like you did not put much into it in the day.

I can't find the screws on any diagrams , where exactly are you talking about on the oil pan, or block ? , do you have a number from Assembly manual?

Great reference material. I posted in your thread on the "other" forum.

I have a 1972 version of the same. I use it often. For one thing, it clarifies all the big block and dipstick/tube variations and supercessions.

This catalog was the first Corvette-only parts catalog issued by GM after the original 1953-55 Corvette-only catalog was discontinued in 1955. After 1955, all Corvette parts were transferred to the passenger car and light truck P&A Catalog. In October, 1969, the 1953-69 Corvette-only catalog was released. Thereafter, Corvette parts were always included only in the Corvette-only catalogs.

The 1953-82 Corvette parts catalog was last published in December, 1983. After that, the 53-82 Corvette parts catalog became inactive and was not further updated as parts were discontinued or superceded.

Jack - thanks for posting and clarify 1969 especially where it pertains to items I have seen for sale recently.

              But -

These do not show the 1966 configuration, nor do they show the fateners.

Is there a separate page for 1966?

I'd still like to see the page that shows the valve covers for 66 too, is it perhaps a different edition?

No page for just the 66 engine. If the block did not change , it would be the same diagram. The numbers page a posted shows # for screws center hole # 1.428 I have attached a photo of the valve cover. Not much detail. Again it says 69 but, I think it is inclusive up to 69.

No P&A Catalog is going to show the kind of detail you're apparently looking for with respect to engine components.

I think these are very common to the "older" members...and think many people have these in their working library. I have several different years of the Corvette only (69, 71, 74, 76...) It is good to have several years worth as they help with superceded part numbers etc. I also have an original Nov 66 GM parts counter catalogs (which includes the 67 Corvette) that cover all Chevrolet parts from 1938 to 1967. It is very interesting to have and a big help to get the original part number for 67 Corvettes at least.
