    Mark;

    Nice approach and seems you greased the landing. You had a nice stable platform for the camera. What did you use?

    My sons send me videos every so often too. I think my favorite is one of them landing at St. Marteen where you pass about five feet over the onlookers heads. They also taped a 747 coming in right over their heads as well - WoW!

      Nope, I just know too many FAs who would NOT appreciate the humour, even if it is tru... Ah never mind. Also taking a cheap shot at the (cough) 'competition' is not quite fair.

        St. Marteen is an easy approach for pilots because there are no obstacles (except for the previously mentioned drunk tourists heads) but it is a Kodak moment for the beachgoers.

          Uhhh...Well, Stu, he's still posting for sure, but that seems far enough out that a lot could still go wrong.

          Where the devil is that?...Looks like they've just scraped a runway out of the vegatation, and I don't see a terminal building. Don Henley's tune "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" comes to mind.

            I can't take credit for the landing as it was my First Officer flying (although he was under my direct supervision ). I'm the one making the callouts. You can hear me say 'got ya covered' when I take control below 80 kts. If you go to full screen and turn up the volume the video is better.

            The runway is the brand new 36L/18R in Charlotte, NC.

              But...for the time challenged...Anyone here technically astute enough to simply post a representative audio clip of the Vette? I don't even know if posting audio here is possible...Perhaps a link to a clip stored offsite?
              The movie is actually pretty good, nothwithstanding the Corvette if you like the mystery/intrigue genre, and I like Willem Dafoe. I "discovered" him in "Flight of the Intruder". He was the wacky A-6 bombardier. He's really good at playing offbeat characters. Maybe it's that crazy grin of his.

              "White Sands" got mixed reviews from critics, and I don't think it did too well at the box office. There are a couple of implausibilities in the plot - Lane's (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) attraction to Ray (Dafoe) and a CIA guy wacking two FBI agents. So the script had some weaknesses, but the cinematography is good and it has a decent score. Even in 1992 it was somewhat implausible that a county sheriff in New Mexico would have a vintage Corvette, so clearly someone - writer, director, producers - liked C2 Corvettes.

              I never watch commercial TV other than a few PBS and sports programs. I just can't stand the in-your-face commercials. I don't have cable or satellite, but I order two or three movies a week (online) from the vast collection in the LA County library system, and walk down to the Hermosa Beach branch about a mile away to pick them up - one week checkout and two or three renewals if no one else has a hold and all copies are checked out.

                Duke,
                There were two Corvettes used in the making of that film. One is still here in Albuquerque, it is NOT the one seen sitting top down in the rain in Taos. Gotta run, I can put you in touch later with the Albuquerque owner. Bill

                    Re: "White Sands" Corvette

                    OK, I watched the movie closely, my wife didn't like all my freeze frame back and forth though. Definitely a '66, front grille, front hood badge, seat covers, and dash knobs all show that. No side exhaust, so the exhaust note is not as loud as I would like, but I would opine it is an L-36 or maybe a crate motor, but definitely not a 4 and a 1/4, just no solid lifter sounds or idle. Car has some mods, the tail lights have no backup lights, and inboard lights light up when the brakes are pushed. A nice teakwood wheel, but probably not original. I would be suspect of those KOs too. The tires look like radials, not 7.75s. Great movie though, thoroughly enjoyed it, but Fred Thompson got no credits for his appearance and lines, odd. Lots of NM scences, including the cruising highway near my place (NM 503, High Road to Taos) I use frequently, the same one Wild Hogs and City Slickers was also filmed on.

                      I finally saw the movie (not bad), and as expected, I have no idea whether it's an L-36 or L-72.

                      What I can say is...there definitely were two Corvettes used to make the movie. The one he left town in sounded tight and sweet with no whine. By the time he got to Taos, the car still sounded good, but seemed pretty ragged out with the "whine". About the "whine"...Joe said the whine was an "angry power steering pump"; I guess it could be, but it sounded like a really ****** alternator to me.
