Re: 64 tar top battery
Tom;
Thanks for the intro. Yes, I do like that repro my son got for me. He got it at Corvette Central with the date stamp. It works great, looks good, and as Dan says any 7 point hit would be worth getting rid of all the hassle of the wet battery. I just spent the whole weekend under the car repairing the damage to the frame and block off panel. It didn't look that bad from top side when I repaired that area during the installation, but it wrapped around the bottom of the frame and streaked backwards.
Taking the old battery out was the worst part. I don't know if it gained weight over the years or I lost strength, but it does weigh a lot more than the repro - I'd say a good 5 lbs. It was a piece of cake putting that new one in.

Re: 64 tar top battery
Well Kevin, One reason not to go to Antique Batteies directly is it would be nice to remain loyal to an old time NCRS member who owns and started Restoration Battery in Cincinnatti. Tom Kobman.
I read my friend Joe Ray's post and have thought about it some. Just some though.
Trouble with the repro battery is the top of it is obviously plastic. I mean you can't put your thumbprint in it like nice judges do on my tartop. Even though I put nice sign on the battery at a show saying. THe M is real so don't touch the battery. Course I did that after the judging and did it to make people laugh.
Another reason is that the batteries are typically a topic of discussion in that very few cars have a poc tar top.
Stay with the sealed plastic tar top and don't even think of a real deal tar top unless you plan on redoing the battery area and the frame when the acid eats it up. Been there several times. JD- Top
