Welcome Carlo! Unfortunately I don't know much about the Canadian exhaust spec---actually nothing. There are some very knowledgeable people in NCRS who I am certain will answer your question.

If you get a Judging Manual for your Corvette and a couple of other good resource books like the Assembly Manual and Chevrolet service manual you will be off to a good start.

    Welcome!

    Steve

Welcome to NCRS! Don't worry about the English, you'll find we WILL try to work this issue through with you. BTW, you're pretty close an NCRS Chapter in the Netherlands where you'll find good local expertise as well as multi-lingual NCRS members to help!

But i try to do my Best, i hope of a little understand from the Members here. Thank`s to all

I don't know/can't comment there... Each model year grouping of Corvette (we say 'division') publishes a Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (JG) that's relatively complete with descriptions of what's known and what the judges should look for. This book will be important to your support library for 'baby'...

I have Factory Steel Wheels, but Aluminum Wheels are mounted,so i try to find the Correct wheels for Mine, which Date Code the Wheel must have ?

Generally, date coded items are considered 'correct' if they preceed the car's final assy date by 0-6 months. On steel wheels, the only date codes that can be read/seen on the judging field are those on the spare since the road mounted wheels' date codes are generally hidden by the trim rings...

Are there other Difference(s) from an US Version when Yes where are they, the only i know (and see) is the Speedometer

I try to Restore my Vette to Original as Possible, because it`s my first and in Europe a Rare Model,I hope that you can help me with this Questions.

There probably ARE other differences from typical US production due to the specific requirements of the importing nation. But, this is an area where our knowledge isn't as crisp as what we know about US delivered cars. Still, the JG books DO make mention of what we know...

Hi Carlo, as a Dutch Chapter member we would be happy to help you. Actually we just had our annual members meeting and we now also have a guy who will especially focus on attracting NCRS members from the other Benelux states. He is from Belgium.

There is a large Corvette meeting in the south of the Netherlands during the weekend of 10-11 July. http://www.corvette-fame.com/. It is not an NCRS specific event and attended by basically anybody from Western Europe who share a passion for Corvettes - for you it's just a 2 hour drive and I am pretty sure that you will be able to meet a large group of NCRS Dutch Chapter members and their cars.

            Best regards,
            Erik

                  Welcome aboard Carlo.

I have a 1979 Corvette and from the research I have done all the Canadian cars were imported from the St. Louis plant. All are equiped with dual exhausts in a Y pattern to accomodate the Cat Converter. The most notable difference in a Canadian car and a US car is the speedometer which is in KM with the miles in small numbers in the background. So far this is the only real difference I have uncovered. I spoke with the original dealer that imported my car and he states that other than the speedo the car were the same as the US models.

                      Hello Carlo and welcome!

The exhaust on Canadian cars is no different than on the US model, so the seller on eBay is incorrect.

In general there's very few differences on Canadian cars vs. US, you've already found the most obvious one. Other differences are possibly a different mix of antifreeze and extra gasoline in the tank. Earlier cars had an extra sticker regarding oil changes which was placed next to the tune up instructions. If you're interested. GM Canada has a record of all the options and name of the original selling dealer when the car was new.

This would list all the Canadian options as well.

                      Good luck with your car.

                        Hello Carlo,

I have checked just about all the codes on my car except for the frame code, which I will likely look for in the spring. Eveything is number matching so I am assuming the frame will be as well. As for the serial numbers our vehicles were built 7 months apart. My 79 was produced on August 29th, 1978 and yours based on the 5 digits you provided would have been produced on March 26, 1979. As Micheal Ward mentioned they are basically the same with some exceptions on the very early models, for instance my car has the chrome window trim around the back window which was common on the 78's and as such will assume yours being produced in March has the black trim. Micheal gave you a good lead with the GM website in Canada. To help you more just e-mail, with description of your vehicle and full VIN # to George.zapora@cc.gmcanada.com. He is very helpful and for a fee will provide you with a letter confirming build date, shipping date and Dealer along with all options on the vehicle. Good luck with your search and restoration. When I locate my frame codes I will let you know where they are located.

                        Happy Corvetting my friend,

                        Ken Chase
