Am freshening the Muncie 4-speed from my '66 and looking at kits from 4 to 5 vendors. Looking at the master rebuild kits which include the front and rear bearings, sycro's, idler shaft, retainers, roller bearings ...all small parts and gaskets. Will be replacing second gear and slider. Who seems to sale the best quality parts particularly ones made in USA? I'm finding out 2nd gear and 1st to 2nd slider may be hard to find USA manufacturered. Regardless, priority is purchasing from vendor who has "the best stuff". Thanks.

Larry Fisher and Ed Hartnett are great sources for Muncie parts and rebuild services. I think you'll find their contact information in the archives. As I recall, Larry is located in New York and Ed is in Pennsylvania.
As far as major internal parts are concerned (i.e. gears, synchro assemblies, etc.), I think the only way you'll find US made parts is to find NOS GM or NOS aftermarket. I believe the only current manufacturer of major internal parts for the Muncie is Masiero S.A. in Italy. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Muncie rebuild kits...who has the stuff?
Michael,
When overhauling my T-10, I purchased the overhaul kit from Larry and at that time he had kits with american made bearings. Also, he had some NOS parts that I purchased along with Masiero made second and third gears.
Larry said these parts would be fine and that they are very well made .- Top

Re: Muncie rebuild kits...who has the stuff?
I've been building 4spds (mostly Muncies) for 40+yrs and I've been buying all my rebuild/repair parts from Larry Fischer http://www.dandltransmission.com/ for over 30yrs. I have NEVER had any dissatisfaction whatsoever dealing with Larry.
I am well aware of other sources for tranny parts, but when you have a source that does everything right, I see no reason to jump around.- Top

If all else fails, try Darrell Shepard at 4 speeds by Darrell. He has all the stuff and helped me trouble shoot the problem with my M-22 over the phone.

Re: Muncie rebuild kits...who has the stuff?
Autogear sells all of the Masiero-manufactured internal parts for Muncie 4 speeds. Autogear also manufactures new Muncie main cases, side covers, extension housings, and rear bearing retainer plates. These parts are not reproductions and do differ from the original pieces in configuration. However, they are superior to the originals in many ways. One can actually build a complete NEW Muncie transmission from parts they sell without even a single part ever having seen the inside of the old Muncie, IN transmission plant.
The advantage, though, in purchasing Muncie internal parts from someone like Larry Fischer or Ed Hartnett is that they can offer a lot of technical advice from lots of hand-on experience to their customers. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Muncie rebuild kits...who has the stuff?
Got to speak with Larry last night. Good news......very helpful, much knowledge. Bad news.......he left to go on vacation today and won't be back till 2/15. Should I want to do business with him it will have to wait till then.
Somethings are worth waiting for.....? Bueller.....BUELLER. Do I like it, nope, however liked what he had to offer experience wise and component wise.
