    63 C2 radio issues

My 63 convertible has the original am/fm radio. It works fine for about 5 minutes then goes all funky. Distortion etc.. I noticed a previous owner has installed the (dual stereo speaker in one) unit in the dash. He then wired both speakers into the mono output of the stock radio. Would the dual speaker unit be overloading my radio? I am hoping to avoid a radio restoration by putting the proper speaker back in to solve the issue.

    Michael,

Yes, your radio is overheating and will eventually blow out a transistor. And NO it will not burn your car up.

You should get the two speakers and put them in the proper place. The trash. Several vendors can supply you with a satisfactory speaker.

You may have to send it out to get it repaired as it may have already bit the dust from the heat.

63-63 Radios are marginally good anyway. They are AM radios with an FM adapter. Works but not good and not for long.
