    C2 wiper arms_ direction reversed

    63 Convertible

I checked the archives, but didn't find this situation.

With the wiper arms off, I turned the wiper switch on and then off to get reset to the park position. I then installed the arms and turned on the switch to check the operation of the arms. To my surprise and dismay, both arms started downward, not upward. The car has been apart, and when I reinstalled the linkage and drive studs, I must have gotten something reversed. Or is it possible to get the polarity on the motor reversed? Any suggestions?

    Steve,

From the interior side verify your wiper levers are in the correct configuration, believe the passenger side is down and drivers side up. Should they be attached in reverse believe the swath would be in reverse.

Steve also check to see if the lever on the back of te wiper motor is in the right direction. But you first need to verify rhat the pivots are indeed operating incorrectly by removing the arms and watching the rotation direction of the pivots.

As you suggested, I checked the arm on the back of the motor and it was pointing to the driver side when "parked". I rotated it to point to the passenger side when "parked" and that took care of of the problem.

          Thank you.

Re: C2 wiper arms_ direction reversed

I'm restarting this thread as it is closest to my issue. The wiper motor was disconnected, apparently due to the driverside wiper moving downwards and passenger side moving upwards. In addition the center motor arm bracket is pointing UP towards roof in "parked" position.

              Center Motor Arm: UP
              Driverside Arm: UP
              Passengerside Arm: UP

Based on this thread, should the motor arm be pointing towards the passenger side in a C2 1964? If so, do I have to remove wiper motor and adjust since it appears the bracket is scored (oval)?

              I've attached some pics.

              Thanks in advance, Brad

Passenger side arm should be down.

These are photos of a 67. Same as a 63. If you need to remove the arm pivots, I'd suggest welding the arm to the post. This tightens up the wiper movement........

Brad, This pic was posted by John Hinckley some time back. It shows the orientation of properly parked wipers from inside the cowling.

Thank you all for the pictures, I have a plan now.

Do I have to remove the wiper motor to re-orient the "parked" position?

Re: C2 wiper arms_ direction reversed

My 63 FI car, the LWC, had issues with the wiper rod/arms years back. When I would turn the wipers on the retaining clip that holds the arms to the wiper motor flew off. This happened twice. One of the retainers has never been found. Just laying around waiting to cause electrical issues.
Anyhow the arms were on backwards.
I remember the Aims pic was confusing and no much help. Thanks go to Mike Bucheit of the Pittsburgh chapter. The day My 63 was being judged at a chapter show he quickly took the car apart. Brought a retainer with him to the show and fixed the screwup before the ops was done. JD

Resolved. I reversed the passenger side arm to point down and reversed the crank motor to the opposite side. Thank you all again.
