No local chapters close to home :(

I often think I would like to get more involved with NCRS activities, but unfortunately there are no local chapters based any less than 2 hours from me, and with my current busy weekday schedule attending any meetings would be impossible. Is there any way of knowing if there are new chapters trying to form anywhere? Currently I'm in between Delaware Valley and Mason Dixon, Delaware Valley is a bit closer for me but still it's just too out of the way. Maybe once I retire

Just sitting here at the computer "thinking outloud".

Don't know what part of PA. your in, but we have a lot of del/val members that are also members of our Central Jersey Chapter which is not to far off the Jersey Turnpike. Don't know if it would be any better for you.

        Steven,

I'm sure that I can speak for all of us from the Delaware Valley Chapter we would love to have you! As others have mentioned many members do travel some distances to join the chapter.

        Regards,

        Kevin

No different here in Michigan. 99.9% of the Chapter activities take place in the Detroit Metro area which is 2.5 to 3 hours away from me. Despite that I make 3-4 events a year. If the winter tech sessions weren't on Sunday I'd probably make more of them but it's a day I prefer to stay home. That and it costs $50 in gas to attend an event.

            Hi Steven
If there in no Chapter in your area You have a few choices
Join a Chapter even if not close and make any events that you can .
We have local members we never see but we have members from
across the country we see many times a year. I always tell people It is not
how often you do things with the Chapter it is what you get out of the events you do participate in. Many of our members Help each other out on the phone and the internet. One of our members just ran his 1995 Pace Car through PV. He livers in Southern Mississippi We had several members help him prepare from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi New Jersey to list a few
A second thought would be join several Chapters I can promise you will learn and make many new frends The truth is the cars bring us together but the friendships keep us together. Lastly try to make as many Regionals and the National Convention. We always try to have a chapter evant at thease evants to help get eachother better aquainted
Good luck You are mast welcome to join us if you would like
Let me know if i can help

              Hi Steve.

Don't know where you are in Pennsylvania, but the Mason Dixon Chapter has a number of members in PA, some from the Philly area, some from the Harrisburg area.

MOST of our activities are centered around the Baltimore metro area. We have about 110 members.

We're having a judging meet coming up on October in Havre de Grace, MD.

              Check out www.ncrs.org/masondixon

The Mid Atlantic, Delaware Valley and Central NJ have great groups too. We all sorta "overlap" and pitch in to help each other out at larger meets.

I appreciate the warm welcome from all! I am in the Harrisburg area, my main concern with joining a local chapter was more about not being able to attend any of the meetings as I just wouldn't have time during the week on account of the distance. If thats not a big deal then perhaps I will have to reconsider...

                Thanks for all the ideas,

I'm in the same boat. I belong to a chapter that is an hour from home. Can't make the meetings either. Just like being involved and try to make the events when I can.

The nearest chapter events to me are usually 80-200 miles from me, but I try to make at least 1/2 of them. I used to travel to the Atlanta area but the older I get the less I want to travel. Unfortunately I do more of that in my profession than I want to.

BUT, the friends you make and the knowledge you garnish more than make up for the effort it takes to travel. I went to Kissimmee, was only able to stay only about 1 1/2 days but it was worth it to see my extended Corvette family

I feel your pain! I am a member of the Nebraska Chapter and seldom miss a meeting. Just about every meeting or event is 4-6 hours round trip for me, but I still do it. I have really learned alot from being a member of the NCRS and have taken the oppertunity to help judge to learn even more! This past year I traveled to Kissimee (flew) for the regional and drove to the Iowa (500 miles round trip, third time), Nebraska (260 miles round trip, 5th time) and Kansas City (650 miles round trip, first time) Chapter meets to learn more. I always tell myself that is what I get for living out in the boonies! I know there are alot of others out there who travel to alot more and alot futher than I do, my hats off to them! Just do what you feel comfortable with and be happy the events are out there for you when you are able to participate! Greg

Steve, This weekend we had a tech session in Cumberland Md. and 12 of us members from the Harrisburg area attended. Many of us shared rides, making the two hour trip more enjoyable. We tested a fresh 62 fuel injected engine on a test stand, and with the help of several of our members had it purring like a kitten (tiger) in a short time while breaking in the camshaft.
If you are interested in joining our Mid-Atlantic chapter of NCRS, send me an e-mail and I will get you started before our next session in February.

Well guys, you convinced me, after careful consideration I believe I'm going to join a local chapter and it seems the Mid Atlantic Chapter is going to be the best fit for me. I don't know how I didn't consider it before, it is actually based the closest to home for me at approx. an hour and a half. I appreciate all the kind offers and advise. I am looking forward to attending some events and getting involved in the judging process at some point (hopefully).

Chuck, are you still coming back up here for Vintage Thunder now that you flew south? My wife and I have attended for the last three, I've seen you there but never introduced myself.

Dave, I sent you an e-mail.

                            Thanks,
                            Steve
