67 Seat Belt Retractor and Labels

Here I am trying to figure out which way the labels should be sewn on the belts. But as I'm looking at a bunch of different pictures I am now confused on whch side up the labels should be sewn.
I'm ok with the belt side where its installed from the centre console. It's from the retractor side were I'm confused. As you pull the belt out of the retractor, should the label looking down at the retracrtor read upside down or upside up.

Also As I'm looking at the retractor itself there is a bump on one side. Should this bump be on the top when looking down at the retractor or should I be seeing the smooth side as I'm looking down from the top.

    Thanks

The belts in my '67 L71 are original (I'll probably lose points on condition), and here is a pic of the drivers side belt. The label is on the seat side, oriented so you can read it standing up and pulling it out. The "bump" is also on the seat side of the retractor, the bulge in the retractor cover is on the door side. Hope this helps.

      Thanks Michael

Can you please explain the hump on the retractor again. I can't see it in your picture.
Is it visible as you look at the retractor from a top view or is it down facing the carpet.

      Thanks for your help.

OK, guess black on black on black doesn't stand out too well. The retractor cover bulge (or hump I guess) is toward the door/carpet. The flatter side of the retractor cover is toward the seat.

          Hey Michael

Thanks for the info, it helped me quite a bit.
One question, sounds crazy but could you possibly check your passenger side retractor and tell me if the hump on the passenger side is facing up.
When I was looking at both my retractors, the humps are located on the same side, but when I go to install the retractor, the passenger side always has the hump facing up in comparison to the driver's side which is facing down towards the carpet.

I then phoned the tech guys at Corvette Central and they tell me the passenger side should have the hump facing up and the driver's side should be facing down into the carpet.

I was just wondering if this is correct and what your car has.

          Greatly appreciated.

The drivers side and passenger side look the same to me. The flat side of the retractor cover is toward the seat while the hump side is toward the door/carpet. The hump is assymetrical, with the widest, fattest end up, the end the seat belt comes out of, and the narrower end of the hump side is down toward the seat belt anchor bolt. Not sure if it would fit if the wide part of the hump was down, as there is very little room between the seat and the side of the door sill back there when the seat is back. Hope this makes sense.

Here are some pics (I put a sheet of white paper behind so maybe you can see better). The first is the driver's side, the second the passenger:

Wait, did you mean the circular bump that is on the side of the retractor? Yes, that little bump is up on the passenger side and down on the drivers side. I think you can see that in the pics. I didn't notice it before.

Yes, thats perfect. The pictures just answered my question. The little bump is facing down on the drivers side and facing up on the passenger side.

                  Fantastic Michael.

                      Hi Michael

Sorry to bother you again but before I sew the last label on the the passenger side retractor side is it possible if you can show me which way the label should face as you pull the belt out of the retractor.
Should it look like the drivers side facing upside down but legible as you pull it out.
I would hate to sew it the wrong way, especially after going this far.
A pic withthe the belt pulled out of the retractor showing the label on the passenger side would be fantastic.
I promise not to bother you again.

                      Thanks so very much.

Yes, it is opposite freom the driver's side. The "GM" is toward the seat back side of the belt, here is the picture:
